Program Help

Technical Problems

Message from Riffstation:

To our community,

While we work with labels and publishers on a paid Riffstation service, Riffstation will no longer be available on the web or mobile devices. More

This means that this software program now is obsolete!

Backing Track is a software program for extracting chord sequences from videos and converting this in several formats.

Backing Track fetches the data in riffstation.com web pages when videos are played at the site.

Please read Program Help for details before running the program!

Program Functions

Step 1: Finding and analysing the music.
Step 2: Selecting output formats.
Step 3: Creating and saving files.
Step 4: Checking the output.

A csv file for import into Producer Software (ver. 3.9.5 and newer) can be created and saved.

MIDI output device is set in the MIDI menu.

Limitations

The chord sequence have only Major and minor chords - no 7-chords; no dim-chords; no slash chords etc.

Only 3/4 and 4/4 time signatures are supported.

The software relies on the math done by riffstation.com. If a wrong chord is detected, this program can do nothing about it!

Thanks

Thanks to riffstation.com for doing the hard math work extracting the chord sequence from the video!

About conversion

Conversion can be a one-to-one conversion, such as conversion of miles to kilometres, or Fahrenheit to centigrade. Such conversion can be carried out without loss of accuracy.

But conversion may require pre-processing or post processing to get the best results, most often performed manually. Think of converting images to other formats. To get the best result colour balance, contrast etc. should often be adjusted manually afterwards. Just like translation with e.g. Google. Results are usually somewhat understandable, but not perfect. Here you will also need manual finishing.

The same goes for converting with this 1-click program. The result of the conversion is useful - and in many cases fully enough - for the average user. But if the end result has to be 100% correct, there must be manual finishing in more advanced programs.
